Challenge New Mexico - North Mesa Riders provides equine-oriented activities,
in conformance with guidelines established by the North American Riding
for the Handicapped Association, to make a positive contribution
to Los Alamos County and northern New Mexico
community members who face physical, emotional, social and mental
challenges. Our program also strives to provide our students,
volunteers, and community with a better understanding and
appreciation of how horses—and all animals—contribute
to the well being of people.

NEWS!
North Mesa Riders sponsored an open house at the
Los Alamos Stables on Sunday, May 15. Several of the stable owners opened their doors to visitors, showing off their horses, mules, goats,
and even ducks and chickens.
At the North Mesa Riders lot, Christen Howell and Howell Howell Jr. demonstrated Natural Horsemanship
techniques for working with horses. Christen and Howell are both certified Level 1 trainers in the Parelli
method, and Christen has been working with volunteers and horses loaned
to North Mesa Riders to develop a common base of techniques for handling these horses in the program.
Andy Nelson and Christen Howell look on as Konstantin Nelson takes a spin on Tunisia.
Christen has trained Tunisia using Natural Horsemanship techniques.
Program Director Sue Bargeloh

North Mesa Riders is looking for a new program director. Our current director, Sue Bargeloh, has assumed new responsibilities
at LANL and is finding that her current job requirements are preventing her from giving sufficient time to the
North Mesa Riders program. The requirements of the Program Director job are listed here (to be provided). It's an interesting, challenging
and very rewarding job.
Please contact Sue
if you are interested in finding out more.
